A busy two weeks

We had a busy two weeks--drama, yoga, art, scouts, Sunday school, math club AND a new science class, with a lot of reading and math, and a little writing squeezed in here and there.  I'm excited about it all, but the science class was just too cool!  We had to drive 40 minutes to Chapel Hill for this class, but that gave us some good time in the car to watch a dvd from the History Channel, and to practice skip counting and spelling words.  In the science class they talked about atoms and molecules, then spent the hands-on portion playing with dry ice!  Ava loved making a portable air conditioner and astronaut shampoo.  She also discovered that she can use a bendy straw to cool down her own face.  Very low tech: blow in one end, point other end at face.  The teacher poured a cloud over Ava's head, and I hope I never forget the look on her face.

Bob has been reading to Ava every night from the Star Wars books, and after absorbing this nightly for months without comment, bits and pieces are starting to percolate up during the day.  I think it's great that Bob is giving her a taste for science fiction--it's so much fun to talk about with her.  On the other hand, tonight after her bath Ava was litterally jumping up and down to get back to her own book, Pippi Onboard.  That crazy Pippi can pick up a horse with her own bare hands and manages just fine on her own with no parents and very few baths.  Sounds pretty good to a certain someone.
